Austin City Guide

I’m so excited about this post. If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen that two weeks ago I went to Austin, Texas for a girls’ trip. I went with my fellow bloggers. You should go and follow them: Becca from According to Bbooks, Chaila from Chailajo, Anica from Anica Rose and Lauren from Lipgloss and Living. They’re the best girl gang.

This was definitely the most spontaneous trip of my life and it was so much fun. It all began with me posting at the beginning of the year on my Instagram Stories that one of my goals this year was to travel more within the USA and I got so many DMs. So, I thought why not do a group trip? All of us knew each other but we’re not that close. So it was perfect! Suddenly we started a group text and things happened! I couldn’t have wished for a better group of girls to travel with. Each one of us has a different personality, but it works. Lauren was the one who suggested Austin. I have never been there so I loved the idea of going.

Austin is a wonderful city. I fell in love with it. It reminded me of a European city, and I wasn’t the only one–Becca thought it was like Berlin! The food there is amazing. It’s also SO GREEN!! Coming from a desert, obviously, you fall in love with any greenery. The weather was so good, too. I didn’t mind the humidity at all.

In this post, I decided to round up a list of my favorite places from my experience in Austin. I’m sure there are a ton of other places too, but this is what I did and ate during my weekend in Austin.

Places to EAT:

  • For Brunch
    • Annie’s: Cutest brunch spot. I felt like I was in Paris. It’s in Congress so after having brunch, you can walk around Downton Austin.

  • Irene’s: Best Coffee ever. We all agreed they have the best coffee in town. Also, who doesn’t want to take pictures of their iconic pink Irene’s sign?

  • Holy Roller: We read so many good comments about this restaurant, but it was always packed and had a one-hour waiting list. We tried two times to get brunch there but it was always busy. Maybe next time.
  • Walton’s Fancy and Staple: Good food, cute spot,  gluten-free options and reasonable prices.

    • Amy’s Ice cream: Not a brunch place, but definitely a great spot for a treat. Their ice cream is very famous locally. When we got there, we had to stand in line. It was worth it!!!
  • Lunch/ Dinner

  • For Mexican food, you need to go to Grizzeldas. It’s such a fancy Mexican restaurant. It’s a little bit expensive, but so good! It’s worth it. Get the Cardi B, it’s their signature margarita! I ordered their barbacoa tacos and they were so good!

  • Another iconic Austin’s restaurant: Perla’s. It’s in the heart of Austin. I’m not a seafood person, but they have a burger and fries on their menu and HOLY GUAC. It was delicious.

  • Austin is very famous for their frozen rosé at the Hotel San Jose. We definitely only went to have one for all the hype. It wasn’t the best thing in the world, but at least if someone asked me if I got one, I can say yes.
  • Frank & Angie’s Pizzeria: You can never go wrong with pizza, right?
  • Other places to brunch but we didn’t have time to go: Elizabeth Street Cafe and Le Politique.

Things to do:

  • Two-step dancing. It’s a must! There are a lot of places to go, but we went to Broken Spoke. It’s a very well know and famous dance place. It has lessons at 8:00 pm before the real dance begins. Be sure to bring cash to get in – it’s $12.
  • Walk around Lady Bird Lake. They are a lot of parks and trails, and it’s so nice and beautiful. You can also do water sports like paddling.

  • Barton Springs Pool: To get in, it’s $8 cash. I noticed a lot of places to get in it’s cash only. So bring cash!! The springs is a natural-spring and beautiful pool in the city. Bring your swimsuit and enjoy the nature. Note- the water is cold!

  • Shopping: There are so many amazing local stores. I noticed they have a lot of cool t-shirt designs. Almost every local store/coffee shop/hotel has a cool t-shirt that represents their place. I really wanted to buy a t-shirt from every place. I ended up buying one with the quote “Latina Power.” Any Modcloth fans? They have an actual store in Austin. I was dying when I went to the store.

  • Bars and nightclubs? Go to 6th Street and get into any bars. It was an old gay neighborhood. It’s so much fun. There are country bars, all kinds of music, and you can wear casual clothing. We noticed a lot of Bachelorette parties were there. I guess it’s the place to go! That night, we wore our “Girl Gang” T-shirts and everybody thought we’re a bachelorette party. We went to a piano bar and the guy from the door asked who was the bride and my friends told him that it was me and I got in FREE! So that’s a good tip!

I had so much fun in Austin. I’m telling everyone that I want to go live there. It’s so beautiful, and there are a lot of food trucks, good Mexican food, greenery, lakes, springs, and it’s one of best cities to live in the United States.

I hope this guide helps you if you’re planning to go to Austin! There are so many more things to do, but this is just what I did while I was there. Have you been in Austin? What are your favorite things to do there? Or if you have not been, would you go now?
